Q: Do I need a data plan to use BeamReader?
A: No, data plan is not required to use this product. Data connection will be used only during registration.

Q: How do I open e-mail attachments with BeamReader?
A: Go to the e-mail with that has an attachment and select "Download Attachment" from the menu. After the attachment downloads, you will have an option to open it with BeamReader. Please note that you will need to have BlackBerry OS 4.5 or higher to use this functionality. If your company is using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), it needs to be upgraded to version OS 4.1.5 or higher. You can view documents on your memory card / device internal memory with BeamReader starting with BlackBerry OS 4.2.

Q: What BlackBerry models are supported by BeamReader?
A: Any BlackBerry with OS 4.2+. Please also read the question on "How do I open e-mail attachments with BeamReader"

Q: I have BlackBerry OS 4.5 or higher installed on my device, but I still do not see "Download Attachment" menu option when opening an e-mail with an attachment. What do I do?
A: You may need to update the service books on your BlackBerry device. To update your service books, please go to your personal e-mail setup under the BlackBerry setup. You typically use this portal to link e-mail accounts with your BlackBerry. Once you log in, you will see an option to refresh service books.
If you are using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), please make sure that it is upgraded to version 4.1.5 or higher.

Q: How can I purchase BeamReader?
A: BeamReader is currently in free Beta and is not for sale. Please continue to check our website for updates.

Q: How much will BeamReader cost?

Q: Do I need to have network connectivity to use BeamReader?
A:
No. BeamReader is completely native to the device. Network connectivity is only required for the initial BeamReader registration.

Q: I am getting a "Server Communication Error" during BeamReader registration. What do I do?
A:
First, check to make sure that your network connectivity is adequate. You may also try the following:

From the home screen go to "Options" -> "Security Options" -> "Application Permissions" -> "BeamReader" -> "Edit Permissions" -> "Reset Firewall Prompts" -> "Save". If that does not work, please try the following steps:

  1. Go to "Options" from your BlackBerry home screen
  2. Go to "Advanced Options"
  3. Go to "TCP"
  4. In the APN field please enter your correct APN (you can find your correct APN here )

Please try registering BeamReader again and see if you are still having the connection problems. If you already have APN set, please try using BeamReader without APN altogether (just remove it) and see if that helps.

If the problem persists, please ask your BES administrator to try the resolutions for cause 1 and cause 2 as described here.
